June 2016 meeting with Sadie Yeomans

We had an excellent meeting with lots of show and tell followed by a brief talk and then a mini workshop by Sadie Yeomans of Cornerhouse Crafts  ( http://www.cornerhousecrafts.co.uk/  )

Sadie is an excellent and well organised teacher who showed us her poppy quilt and taught us how to make the block.  Lots of members had a go and enjoyed the experience.  It was a relaxed evening of chatting and sewing!  Below you can see the original poppy quilt made for a competition and a table runner using the same block.

 

 

BQ May Meeting

Our speaker in May was Sara Impey.  Sara is a well known, international quilter and she is also a brilliant speaker.  We laughed a lot as she told us about her inspiration and her quilting life.  Her quilts almost always feature text in a variety of ways and we were all fascinated by both what she writes and her techniques for writing with the sewing machine. Below  you can see Sara rolling up her quilts at the end of the evening.

Below you can see a quilt made for Linus and Anne’s pieced batik wall hanging started in our Jan Hassard workshop.
