Malvern Quilt Show

31 10 2010

I enjoyed the show – it’s relaxed and easy to get around and not enough traders to seriously tempt me to spend too much on fabric (though I did buy 3 metres for £10 but who could resist that…)

I loved the applique quilts by Clare Kingslake and the boats by Dot Carter.  In fact just enough to inspire me to take a few pictures.  You can see them here  http://www.flickr.com/photos/quiltingsusy/sets/72157625157056725/

Gloucester Cathedral Crucible Exhibition

25 10 2010

If you haven’t seen it yet don’t miss the free exhibition of sculpture in the Cathedral.  It is an eclectic collection of art in a wonderful setting.  We saw it this afternoon as the sun was quite low and so giving some interesting effects on the stonework and the sculpture. It is so popular that it has been extended until November 7th.  And what you are probably asking has this to do with patchwork?  Well the colour and the light and the patterns were all very inspiring – as Kaffe Fassett would say ‘art is everything around us’

Quilt finished at last!

2 10 2010

My Kaffe Fassett quilt is finally finished!  I started this in a masterclass at the Festival of Quilts 3 years ago.  I’d pieced in by the end of the week but the quilting has taken a bit longer.  It is pretty big- 8 feet long  and 5 feet wide.  In the picture, Richard is standing on a chair with his arms stretched up and as far as possible!  I really love it, in fact I’d like to make another one though it could be a bit wider and a bit shorter for a standard double bed.
