Finally quilting this star quilt

24 02 2013

This quilt has been many years in the making and finally I am finishing the quilting. I’m using perle cotton and big stitches in orangy brown and black thread and it won’t take long. I’ll be stitching it at sit and sew this week!

We handed over more than 20 Linus quilts to Lynne Adams for distribution to children who need the comfort of a quilt.  They looked very colourful lined up.

We also got down to the task of making needlecases – we estimate we need at least 200 for our exhibition needlebook raffle in September.

The first Sit and Sew of 2013

1 02 2013

IMG_3135We had a great evening this week with 11 members sitting, sewing, chatting and enjoying cake.  It’s always great to see the variety of work that we produce and in particular the way we embrace such a wide range of patchwork and quilting styles.

This week we also spent time sharing the books, magazines and fabric of our friend Mary, who died before Christmas.  Her husband has asked us to raise money for the Salvation Army in her memory and we are on our way to a good total.

So what were we making?   Maureen brought her African desert picture to show us and she worked on some redwork embroidery.  Georgina was sewing the binding on to her monkey Linus quilt and showed us her black and white striped quilt.  Margot was making tiny applique flowers for her Pauline Imeson quilt  with the help of Anne.  Lorraine and Vermayle spent some time browsing the books and fabric and Sue brought her BOM quilt that Jeanette has organised.  Karen was making foundation pieced New York Beauties in bright batiks whilst Jill, our newest member was making a fabric pear.  I was mending cushions and quilting a dollie quilt with perle cotton. We also welcomed Kathy another new member who was making  applique panels (I think but she was on the far side of the table!)

You can see some of the projects below:
