Bag making with Jenny

24 09 2010

Last weekend we enjoyed a bag making day with Jenny Fortescue.  We all made 2 bags, one a copy of a supermarket carrier that folds up small and fits in your handbag and the other a nicely shaped bag large enough for an A4 file.

We worked hard to complete the first and almost the second (maybe the excellent lunch prepared by Georgina slowed us down a bit!)

A Textile Evening with Olivia Dell

9 09 2010

BQ members enjoyed looking at a range of stitched textiles with Olivia Dell.  Her title was ‘Devices and Desires’.  She encouraged us to use devices to help us make progress with our projects and showed us lots of samples where fabric was enhanced by stitch and holes created by the method of stitching.  For desires, she encouraged us to go on that course we’ve always wanted to do or to buy that piece of fabric/art that we covet.  There was lots of chatting, catching up after the summer and some stitching to show the effect of subtle shading.  An enjoyable evening!  There are more photos on Flickr  http://www.flickr.com/photos/quiltingsusy/

I do already follow the advice on desires (too often I suspect!).  My masterclasses with both Kaffe Fassett and Noriko Endo really inspired me to look at colour and nature in a different way.

Quilted, bound, backed with a sleeve and a label!  I’m really pleased with it.
