Pink Peony

Pink Peony

This peony looked as though it had been made from hand dyed fabric, done as we did in the workshop with a colour run from light to dark. It’s easy to see why fabric designers like Kaffe Fassett and Philip Jacobs have used peonies in their work. And it makes me feel that summer is really here…..

June Meeting Pojagi with Edwina Mackinnon

Edwina introduced us to  Pojagi patchwork and the hand sewing seams that she uses and soon
IMG_4922 IMG_4933we were choosing from lovely hand dyed squares of cotton organdie to start our mini project.  This was the ideal class.  You could finish it in an evening if you wished, you hadn’t committed to a lot of time or money and you enjoyed some old fashioned seaming.  There was a satisfying buzz of quiet chatter and everyone enjoyed the evening so much that it was late before we started packing up.  Thanks to Edwina for such simple inspiration!  The photos show the range of fabric and Sue’s piece – perhaps you can guess which Sue by the choice of colours!

June Meeting Show and tell

13 06 2013

We had a lovely meeting yesterday in Brockhampton. After a hectic start with lots of visitors paying their money and members signing up for trips and on rotas for the Exhibition we got going.  Show and Tell produced a beautiful bag made by Anne for her grandaughter and a stylish elephant quilt (with moving tails!), a beautifully hand quilted cushion started by Vermayle at Mevagissey, a lovely quilt made by Jeanette (no photo so come to the exhibition!)  and finally a huge quilt made by Jenny.  Her son had bought her the Farmers Wife book and so she set to, somewhat out of her comfort zone, using her stash to create this spectacular quilt.  She decided against hand quilting it and had it long arm quilted.  We also celebrated the fact that Maureen finished the hand quilting on the group quilt – hooray!

Liz is making flowers….

Liz is making flowers....

My sister Liz has made these lovely fabric flowers following a class we took at the NEC with Gillian Travis. She has offered to demonstrate making them at our exhibition in September. There has been so much interest in them but be warned, they are almost as addictive as pear making! I’m thinking Oakshott would look good…

Margaret's quilt for charity

I thought I’d post a photo of this amazing quilt that Margaret made for charity. She used hand dyed fabrics and I’m amazed that she could part with it!

May 2013 Sit and Sew in Brockhampton

May Sit and Sew

We had a great evening this week working on a variety of projects. Five of us worked on quilting the border of the group raffle quilt – that made 10 hours quilting on the centre parts of the border and in the ditch around the applique. I brought it home and have done another 4 hours so far and next week it is off to visit Maureen! The scrappy binding is done and Vee has offered to sew it on. Huge thanks to Jeanette and Georgina who have done so much work on the quilt.
