Finally, I have finished my stars!

24 04 2010

I joined dollies online for the year, starting in February.  Each month, I get a pattern for a mini quilt.  The first month was the one that I did in black and gold fabrics and I’m now doing a bright version.  the second month was called ‘What a star’ and has been a nightmare to put together.  In the end I decided to go with 3 stars in a row rather than a square quilt with 2 whole and 4 half stars.  I used Kaffe Fassett fabric and some lime green cotton/linen blend.  I’m glad that I persevered because in the end , I am really pleased with the effect.  Click on the photo for a larger version.  If I did it again, I would foundation piece the stars!  You can see more photos of the stars and of  Brockhampton Quilters on the flickr site at the bottom of the home page.

A great day out!

This week I visited the V and A Quilt exhibition with my sister Liz and niece Rosa.  It really is a fascinating collection of quilts and we spent 2 hours looking at all the exhibits.

We were all fascinated by the quilt made by prisoners in Wandsworth Prison.  The charity called Fine Cell Work teach the men to piece, quilt and do needlepoint and for many it obviously boosts their self esteem, fills their empty hours and earns them some money. You can read about it on this link.

After a quick trip to Liberty and a little fabric shopping, I met up with Richard and we enjoyed a visit to the Van Gogh exhibition at the Royal Academy.  It is almost at the end of the run and so was very crowded but we were still able to enjoy the letters and paintings.

We ended the day with dinner at Rasa, a favourite Indian restaurant which serves great Kerelan food.

Quilts, meeting up with family, fabric shopping, great art and delicious food.  What more could anyone wish for!

Another pear..

I’ve just finished another pear pincushion so now I have a pair of pears.  These could become addictive but I’ve run out of filling so I have to stop until the shops open again!
